Faded signs upon the roadway
As I make my way today
Feeling tired, feeling anxious and
Wanting more than just my pay
Is my life not more than money?
Could you take it all away?
There are people with more of this
With their lives in disarray

Can they feel anything without
guilt for their finances
And they throw emotions down the drain
To clog it up again

Why this suppression of feelings
There are people who think only love is the answer
Don’t let them tell you that you have no right to concern

My profession deals with building
And I think it lends a hand
Is my job known as substantial?
Because I do the best I can
I pass the children in the playground
Singing songs of the unknown
Thoughts simplistic, but effective
Not of status and their tone

I remember when I was younger
The days were filled with laughter
And small petty problems could put me up in arms

I know how good I had it
But I failed to appreciate it
Didn’t realize as I pushed right forward I’d want to go back

That’s when I cry when I see you there
Die when I see your desperate eyes
Why can’t I see you
In a place where nothing else matters, but what we
Feel inside our minds when we’re
There we look out for each other

Can’t we continue, there must be a way

Can’t we see anything
Won’t we try to watch the sky once in a while
Think maybe there’s a way other than one

Can’t we be anything
Won’t we try to listen to what’s on the inside
Look on the outside and bring it into view
