in an odd situation
biding her time as she stands there alone
she seems to like
communication
across the nation on the phone

not in his arms, she’s away
he sits and warms his hands by the fire

when he needs her
or where is he when she needs him
all they do is
pick up the receiver
punch some numbers and connect their hearts

he showed up at her front door
